First Members stay at Rustington for Christmas

Published on 30 Jan 2024

A round up of the festive fun at the first Blind Veterans UK Christmas in Rustington!

There was great excitement at the centre as we welcomed our very first holidaymakers at Rustington; first guest, first female guest, first couple - even our first guide dog!

Over the Christmas period, our nine residents and 10 holidaymakers from across the South East of England enjoyed a number of events and activities on our festive programme. These included crafting, a music quiz, a trip to the Pavilion Theatre, Worthing to see The Sleeping Beauty pantomime, and a Christmas Carol Concert with Sussex West County Guide choir’ and the 4th Rustington brownies.

We also had a very special visit from Father Christmas on Christmas morning - although he was recognised by many!

Walking was also a feature of the programme as most holidaymakers explored Rustington village, as well as enjoying a winter sunshine-kissed boxing day walk along the sea front. One hardy permanent resident, Woody, even took advantage of the winter sunshine to take in the fine sea air at Rustington.

Probably one of the most popular highlights of our first Christmas programme however, was our very own "Rustington's Got Talent" competition. All were we treated to singing and joke telling from members, much to the delight of many.

A great time was had by all and we all look forward to creating many more a memorable Christmas for our lovely Members.
