Fire protection company donates £5000 to Llandudno Centre

Published on 19 Dec 2024

A fire protection company that has carried out projects at Blind Veterans UK rehabilitation centres in Llandudno and Rustington has donated £5,000 to the Llandudno Centre, after seeing first-hand how the charity supports veterans with sight loss.

Fire Technology International Limited (Firetech), based in Kent, carried out extensive works to the safety systems in the grade II listed building in Llandudno throughout 2024. The team were so impressed with the service delivered by the charity that they wanted to make a donation to support the rehabilitation and wellbeing work carried out there.

Earlier this month the team from Firetech visited veterans at the Llandudno Centre to present a cheque for £5,000 and join in a day of festive activities during one of Blind Veterans UK’s ‘Mistletoe and Wine’ Christmas themed holiday breaks.

Andy Stephens, Facilities Lead at the Llandudno Centre, said:

"We are delighted to have received such a generous donation from Firetech. We worked closely with the team for a number of months and they really understood the needs of our blind veterans and the importance of maintaining safe access around the building during the works"

Andrew Hunt, Managing Director of Firetech, said:

“Undertaking the fire protection work in a special building like the Llandudno Centre is a great privilege for us, and carrying out the work for a charity such as Blind Veterans UK makes our work even more rewarding. Completing the work and making a donation ensures that the fantastic work carried out by the charity can continue.

“It was an absolute pleasure to have the opportunity to visit the centre during the Christmas period and to join in with the Christmas festivities and games.”

Work carried out by the company over the summer months meant that there was a short-term closure for the centre on the North Wales coast, however the Firetech team worked closely with staff and other contractors to minimise disruption and complete the project ahead of schedule. The re-opening of the centre in September ensured stays for veterans were back on schedule in time for autumn and winter breaks and that blind veterans could enjoy Christmas festivities with their friends and the team in Llandudno.
