Face-to-face fundraising

We book sites every week in public places, such as outside shopping centres and supermarkets, where we carry out fundraising. This involves us talking to potential supporters about our work and asking for their financial support by playing our weekly lottery or becoming a regular donor.

This method of fundraising is one of the most effective ways to recruit new supporters, and ensures that we can continue to provide lifelong care and support to the many thousands of blind ex-Servicemen and women around the UK.

Private site fundraiser locations

If you come across our collectors in the street and would like to check that they are legitimate fundraisers for Blind Veterans UK, please ask to see their identification and call us on 0300 111 22 33 (Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm). We will be able to verify the legitimacy of the fundraiser. You can also email us with your questions.

Why do we use this as a method of fundraising?

This method of fundraising is a very efficient and cost-effective way of generating income and attracting new supporters for Blind Veterans UK.

Donations and lottery tickets purchased from individuals are vital for us to continue our work. Direct debit is also a cost-effective way to donate as it allows us to keep our administrative costs to a minimum and the length of the commitment helps us to plan ahead and budget effectively.

How do I know that the fundraiser is legitimate? Should they have ID? How do I recognise them?

All of our fundraisers wear Blind Veterans UK branded clothing (t-shirts and/or jackets) and carry official identification cards, which are required by law. They will also be carrying Blind Veterans UK literature and electronic tablets featuring Blind Veterans UK.

What do the fundraisers ask for?

The fundraisers ask members of the public to play the Blind Veterans UK Weekly Lottery by direct debit and are not authorised to accept any other means of payments as a donation (cash, cheques etc.).

Do you have permission to fundraise in my area?

Before we fundraise in any area we always get permission from the relevant local authority.

Is this type of fundraising regulated?

The Fundraising Regulator regulates fundraising activities used by charities in the UK and enforces a Code of Fundraising Practice, which aims to make certain that peoples’ experience of this type of fundraising is positive.

At Blind Veterans UK we closely monitor our street fundraising campaigns to ensure that representatives adhere to the regulations and Codes of Practice set out by the Fundraising Regulator.
